How PSLE AL Scores Work: Score Bands, Total Score and Posting Groups
Since 2021, PSLE results use Achievement Levels (AL). Each subject gets an AL from 1 (best) to 8, and the four ALs add up to the PSLE score.
Mark to AL
| Raw mark | AL |
|---|---|
| 90 and above | 1 |
| 85–89 | 2 |
| 80–84 | 3 |
| 75–79 | 4 |
| 65–74 | 5 |
| 45–64 | 6 |
| 20–44 | 7 |
| Below 20 | 8 |
AL 5 and AL 6 are wide bands (10 and 20 marks), so a few marks can move a subject from AL 5 to AL 4, while AL 6 covers a big range.
Foundation subjects
| Foundation grade | Raw mark | Counts as |
|---|---|---|
| A | 75 and above | AL 6 |
| B | 30–74 | AL 7 |
| C | Below 30 | AL 8 |
Total score and Posting Group
The four ALs add up to a score from 4 (best) to 30, which sets the Posting Group:
| PSLE score | Posting Group |
|---|---|
| 4–20 | PG3 |
| 21–22 | PG3 or PG2 (your choice) |
| 23–24 | PG2 |
| 25 | PG2 or PG1 (your choice) |
| 26–30 | PG1 |
Subject levels in Secondary 1 (Full SBB)
Under Full Subject-Based Banding, each subject can be taken at G1, G2 or G3 (G3 is most demanding):
- PG3: all subjects at G3.
- PG2: any subject with AL 5 or better can be taken at G3.
- PG1: any subject with AL 5 or better can be taken at G3 or G2; AL 6 or Foundation A can be taken at G2.
So two students with the same total can start Secondary 1 at different levels.
Once you know the score, see which schools fit in our cut-off tool. A personalised report also shows the level each subject can be taken at, if you enter all four grades.
